Living in Atlanta
The city of Atlanta is the state capital of Georgia, and the third largest city in the South. Founded in 1837 as "Terminus," Atlanta's roots stretch back to just before the Civil War and beyond. The city's past includes an important role in transportation development with the arrival of the Western and Atlantic Railroad; the Civil War, as it was the site of many pivotal battles like Peachtree Creek and the Battle of Atlanta. Decades later the city became a major organizing hub for the Civil Rights Movement. This being said, it's all too obvious that Atlanta is a city steeped in history and culture.
Atlanta is home to dozens of museums and historic sites like the Fernbank Museum of Natural History, the High Museum of Art, the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site, and the Jimmy Carter Library and Museum. With help from attractions like the World of Coca-Cola, the CNN Center, and the Georgia Aquarium, the city is ideal for tourism that is engaging, educational and entertaining. The city is also a satisfying destination for sports fans, with professional teams like the MLB Atlanta Braves and the NFL Atlanta Falcons.
This Sun Belt city is recognized as one of America's top business cities. Atlanta boasts one of the largest collections of Fortune 500 corporations in the country, including the world headquarters of large companies like Home Depot, Coca-Cola Company, Delta Airlines, AT&T Mobility, and UPS. To accompany Atlanta's corporate status, there's plenty of high-end shopping destinations and a hot nightlife to complement one of the Southeast's most historic and metropolitan cities.
